With natural environments being increasingly shaped by human intervention, this modern era is often referred to as the Anthropocene. Exploring the movement of sediment where ocean meets the land, I introduce the term Coastalcene.
My approach involves a careful and consistent application of watercolour, with the intention of making each work identical. However, due to the inherent nature of the medium, each piece evolves organically. Reflecting the unpredictability and fragility of coastal systems, highlighting their sensitivity to even subtle shifts.
In the series Coastalcene, I examine the contrast between natural shorelines and those altered by human-made barriers, known as groynes. These structures disrupt the natural processes of erosion, underscoring the impact of human intervention on coastal landscapes.
